John 6:35-40

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

TEXT: John 6:35-40

Theme:  Jesus Is the Bread of Life that Never Perishes

Take-Away-Point: Believe In God And In Jesus His Son

The Israelites wanted Jesus to give them a sign as proof of his legitimacy as the Messiah and Son of God. They claimed that Moses had provided them with manna while they were in the wilderness. They believed that the Messiah would perform a more outstanding miracle or sign than Moses did. Jesus immediately corrected this wrong notion. He told them that it was God our Heavenly Father who out of his love and compassion provided manna in the wilderness for their survival and sustenance.

Jesus had earlier in John 6:27 encouraged the Jews not to expend their time and resources on things that will not endure till eternity. Jesus' exact words were Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”  In John 6:35 Jesus declared that He is the bread of Life.

We all know that bread (food) is the fuel that sustains human life, water quenches our thirst.  Life as we all know is not only our physical existence here on earth, but life also includes our existence beyond our earthly existence.  For us to live beyond our physical existence on earth and gain eternity, we must have a relationship with Jesus the Son of God. Without us having that personal relationship with Jesus Christ, none of us can inherit eternity.

God out of His loving kindness is inviting everyone to come eat from the Bread of Life which is the Savior Jesus Christ at no cost. Jesus is assuring us that if we accept him as our Lord and Savior, we will never be spiritually hungry or thirsty. Isaiah 55:1 confirms this invitation “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” The invitation to salvation is FREE AT NO COST. We must not fail to accept this gift of love from the Messiah Jesus Christ.

He further assures us that none who believes in Him will ever face rejection in verse 37b Jesus stated that “and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.” All around us we face one form of rejection or the other, at the workplace, schools, in the community where we live, even among our family members we face rejections. But with Jesus, all is welcomed and guaranteed salvation.

Jesus also assures us of eternal life. Everyone who believes in Jesus as His Lord and Savior and allows him to be the manager of our lives will surely gain and spend eternity in God’s kingdom. This is God’s perfect will for us as was clearly stated in John 6:40 “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

I encourage you this week to accept Jesus’ love and invitation to salvation.

Do have a meaningful week, as you ponder and make that decision.

God bless you.
