Text: Haggai 1:1-6

Theme: Make God’s Work and His Service Your Priority.

Take-Away-Point:  Seek You First the Kingdom of God.

A Call to Build the House of the Lord

1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest: 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.’” 3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” 5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

God fulfilled His promise in Jeremiah 29:10 “This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.” (see Ezra 1:1-4 NIV).

In fulfilling His part in bringing the Israeli captives from Babylon, God gave them one condition – to Rebuild the broken Temple in Jerusalem as stated in Ezra 1:1-4. God backed up this project by ensuring that adequate provision was made to execute this project.  The humanity in man came to the play, man reneged against God, the Israelites turned their backs against God and pursued their personal projects until God sent Prophet Haggai to them.

 Highlights of Today’s Passage:

1.     Excuse and Delay in Rebuilding The Temple (vs 1-2).

“The sad thing is that “When we neglect God and fail to obey God’s spiritual guidance, every area of our lives is negatively impacted.”

“When we honor God, when we make Him our priority before our personal ambitions and desires, our obedience brings forth fulfilment of His promised blessings.”

Haggai 1:2b “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.’”

The question for us today is this, what has God directed you to do for Him and His church that you feel that ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.’”?

2.     God Used Prophet Haggai to Expose Their Misplaced Priority (vs 3-4).

“Most times we do things and we feel no one is watching us.  No one knows how I live my life.  That could be true, but we forget one thing.  That the Eagle eyes of our Creator (God) see everything and knows the thoughts in our hearts.” (See Job 31:4, Jeremiah 16:17, John 21:17).

There is a great reward and blessings for everyone who serves God faithfully as our Savior Jesus affirmed in

Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  This is true when we make God and His business our priority.

Mathhew 19:29 “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” (NIV).

3.     We Are Called to Consider Our Ways in our Walk with God (vs 5-6).

“God wants us to have a sincere self-examination which will help us identify and recognize areas where we may have moved away from God’s will.  Each time we ponder on God’s Word, God’s Word leads us to true repentance and renews our willingness to obey Him.”

PRAYER POINTS:

1.     Ask the Lord to Keep you clean.  Please “Do Not Walk Out Those Doors If You Are Not Clean With God today.”

2.     Ask God to help you Make Him Your Life Priority.  Let Him be the number one thing in your life.

3.     Personal Prayers (Ask God for one Specific need today for you and your entire family, be Earnest and be persistent.)

Thank you for worshipping with us at Hope Church Moreno Valley, God bless you.

I wish you a meaningful week in Christ Jesus.
