John 7:45-46

45 Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?” 46 “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.

TEXT: John 7:45-46
Theme: Nothing Walks Out of God’s Timing
Take Home Point: Wait on God’s Time.

They Chief Priests and Pharisees for the first time worked together as a team in their bid to persecute and arrest Jesus Christ, their common enemy whom they had accused of sedition and being a false prophet.  So, they sent out officers and temple guards to go arrest Jesus.  They seated and waited in their chambers full of anger and hatred for Jesus.

These religious leaders were afraid that an uprising might grow in support of Jesus.  If that happened, people would look down on them and their over blotted status.  This was their greatest fear as they did not want to lose their grip and authority over the people.  So, you can imagine their anger and frustration when the guards and officers returned without carrying out Jesus' arrest.

The question I want us to ponder on this week is this, why did the temple guards and officers fail to arrest Jesus?

The simple answer is this, It Was Not the Right Time in God’s Plan.  It would have been impossible to stop Jesus when it was not God’s time.  I want to also encourage us this morning to learn to wait on God’s time.  We will achieve nothing outside of God’s will and timing.  These Bible verses speak to the truth of God’s timing: Proverbs 19:21, Psalm 130:5, Lamentations 3:25-26

Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Psalm 130:5 “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.”

Lamentations 3:25-26 “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

Jesus preached and taught His audience with power and authority.  He was not afraid of persecution, opposition, hatred, Jesus was not afraid of arrest and death because he knew that nothing could happen to Him outside of God’s timing. God’s word is encouraging us today to trust Him, to have faith in Him, to trust His timing for us.  Because nothing can ever happen to us without God’s approval and timing.

In John 2:4b in response to His mother (Mary’) request for Him to perform a miracle after they ran out of wine at the wedding in Cana, Jesus told her “My hour has not yet come.”  Jesus worked strictly in accordance with God’s timing and plan.  He never wanted to go ahead of the Father’s timeline.

As you meditate on this teaching throughout this week, I pray that the Holy Spirit will encourage you to trust in God’s divine timing and plans for your life.

Have a meaningful week in Christ Jesus y’all.
