Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Take Home Point: We must believe Him.
 
Our text begins with these words, “When Jesus spoke again to the people,” this is immediately after His encounter with the Pharisees and the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11, Jesus continued His teaching at the Temple in Jerusalem and boldly made this prophetic revelation “I am the light of the world.”

When Jesus declared Himself as the light of the world, He meant that His Light offers us clarity, His light dispels shadows and enables us to see more clearly. When we follow Jesus, we step into a relationship filled with truth and hope.

Darkness on the other hand can symbolize anything from sin and confusion to despair, fear, and hopelessness. Remember the children of Israel while in slavery in Egypt lived in despair, fear, pains, hardship and without hope. When we have Jesus in our lives, we can trust that He will guide us away from darkness, fear, hopelessness and towards the bright light of His love, mercy, and redemption.

I sincerely pray that as you go about your busy schedule throughout this, you will invite Jesus into your life and allow Him to light up every dark area of your life.
